Rainbow Falls
Red Maple, Hand Carved and Tinted
15 x 18 x 16 in
$6,200 or $620 per month with Art Money! "Rainbow Falls" is a hand-carved wood sculpture made of spalted red maple burl by Tennessee artist Brad Sells. It is part of his ongoing series of forms called "vessels." This particular style of vessel is inspired by the Appalachian Mountains and is characterized by rounded edges conveying a sense of soft, flowing movement. The artist applies a subtle red and turquoise tint to enhance the wood's natural pattern. Sells also includes a hollow, round form on the edge of the piece called an "orbital." These forms represent nature and science and frequently appear in his work. The artist envisions orbitals as various things, including cells, eggs, electrons, planets, and stars.
